Located at the top (or near the top) of a mountain, these springs
are fed by fresh water springs coming up through the ground.
The water is saturated with minerals that create the organic shapes and the white calcium streaks down the sides of the mountain, making it look like a waterfall.
According to wikipedia, "Mitla is the second most important archeological site in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico, and the most important of the Zapotec culture.
I was told these columns were used to determine how old you'd be when you died by how far you could wrap your arms around it... but don't quote me.
I created this blog to share photos I've taken on travels with my family and since we've decided to set out with carry-on luggage only from now on, I hope to eventually share something useful for other families that want to spend less time in the airport and more time enjoying their destination.
